Allwyn UK volunteer deliver fun session at Witham care home

As part of Sporting Memories partnership with Allwyn UK, operator of The National Lottery, a group of enthusiastic employees spent the afternoon at Park View Care Home in Witham, Essex. 

In September a team of 11 Allwyn UK employees from across the Essex area travelled to Witham to facilitate fun and engaging activities at Park View, who are part of our Essex wide funded Sporting Memories project.

The session saw residents with the support of the volunteers and staff at Park View talk a walk in the park where lots of dancing and singing took place alongside plenty of laughter.

The activities also included ball games and a craft table with volunteers helping to decorating biscuits and support colouring activities. Park View said that they normally have around 20 residents go to the park but the session saw 36 want to go out with the volunteers!

Tara Brown, Retail Sales Executive fat Allwyn UK, reflected on an enjoyable afternoon: “We had amazing volunteer afternoon at Park View, Witham. Everyone really joined in activities and helped to make the session really fun. It was great to see so many smiling faces. Thank you everyone for making it possible for Region 1200 at Allwyn UK to volunteer at the care home.” 

Diane Anderson, Lifestyle Co-ordinator at Park View Care Home, was grateful to the team from Allwyn UK for their time at the session: “I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who attend the care home, the residents were so happy and chatted about it all morning the following day, they will remember for days to come.” 

As part of the Essex funded project, Nick, our Sporting Memories Apprentice based at Witham Leisure Centre visits Park View Care Home weekly to deliver Boccia and other physical activities with residents. And alongside this afternoon of entertaining and lively activity by Allwyn UK volunteers, the activities really showcase how Sporting Memories can make a difference in a variety of settings and the impact we can make in care homes with frailer residents.
