Celebrating five at Cwmbran!

Our Cwmbran Club held a special session earlier this month as they celebrated their fifth anniversary!
Hosted at Cwmbran Rugby Club, the Club has grown from strength to strength since it launched in 2021 and there were over 40 members in attendance to celebrate the Club’s fifth anniversary.
The Club was founded with support from Dragons Community and has been supported by the Dragons throughout its existence with the backing of a number of brilliant volunteers. One such Club facilitator Ian Evans, who helped to organise the special session with his fellow volunteers to celebrate reaching five years.
The session saw local country and western duo Pipe & Slippers performing to our members; getting them into the party atmosphere alongside some of the regular Sporting Memories activities.
Reaction
It was an enjoyable for all in attendance with a couple of the Cwmbran members sharing their thoughts on the session with us.
Club member Debbie reflected: “It has been such a lovely day - Ian and the other volunteers do such a brilliant job each week keeping us entertained, we have such good fun!”
Terry also echoed Debbie’s words, by adding: “I have been coming along to the sessions for about 18 months now; they have been a blessing. It is such a lovely group with great people, we have many laughs and several of us enjoy coming along to watch Cwmbran RFC every home game which I would never have done if it wasn’t for the Sporting Memories Club.”
Alongside the members, the Cwmbran Club volunteers also enjoyed their day celebrating the milestone, with Rob commenting: “The group deserved a special day to celebrate our fifth anniversary - we have such god fun each week and we are like family.
“I love coming along on a Tuesday and we now have a second group on a Friday as we have so many members - both weekly sessions are the highlight of my week and I get such a buzz from helping with the group.”
Our Project Coordinator for Wales, Rob Baker, also joined the Cwmbran Club for their special anniversary session and highlighted the community feel of the Club being key to its longevity.
“It was great to be able to join the Cwmbran Club members and volunteers to celebrate reaching five years since it started. The Club is at the heart of the local community and you can tell that with how well attended it is and the positive responses from all involved.
“For the session it was so nice to see members enjoying the entertainment, dancing and singing. I have to credit Ian and the other volunteers for organising an enjoyable afternoon for all.”
Our sessions at Cwmbran Rugby Club run every Tuesday and Friday morning. For more information on how to join the sessions email karen.burgess@dragonsrugby.wales
