Liam Bennett becomes our first Memory Makers ambassador!

We’re delighted to announce that Cambridge United defender Liam Bennett has become our first ‘Memory Makers’ ambassador, supporting our work across East Anglia and helping to connect our work with different generations.

‘Replay Memory Makers’ is a programme run by Sporting Memories which encourages schools, sports clubs, leisure centres and their students or youth members to get involved in a range of activities to connect with older generations locally through a shared love of Sport.

You can read more about the Replay Memory Makers programme on our microsite here.

Liam’s a Memory Maker!

Liam, 24, has made over 150 appearances across his professional career, including over 100 for the U’s, has a close connection with our Sudbury Club, having made several visits to the group to share memories and anecdotes from his career so far.

In his new ambassadorial role, Liam will provide an important link for our intergenerational work, helping us to connect with younger audiences to understand the importance of sharing memories across different generations.

Reflecting on Liam’s ambassador

Liam reflected on becoming part of the Sporting Memories squad by commenting:

“I’m delighted to be announced as a Memory Makers ambassador for Sporting Memories. When visiting the Sudbury Club, I’ve been made aware of the impact their sessions can have on older people and the community in general, so I wanted to help in any way I can.

“Hopefully in my role I can help spread awareness of what Sporting Memories does across the East of England as well as encourage young people to learn more and support the charity in their local area too.”

Chris Wilkins, CEO and Co-Founder of Sporting Memories, reflected on the Liam’s new role with Sporting Memories.

“It’s brilliant to have Liam on board as our first ever ‘Memory Makers’ ambassador.

“Liam has visited our Sporting Memories Club in Sudbury on several occasions with Andy Read (Club facilitator of our Sudbury Club) praising Liam on the time he has spent with our members and volunteers with his engaging approach and lively conversation and sharing his experiences as a professional athlete.

“It seemed like Liam was the perfect fit to support our work as a Memory Makers ambassador, so we’re thrilled to have him on board and look forward to working with him into 2026 and beyond.

Our thanks also go to Cambridge United and Cambridge United Foundation for supporting Liam’s new role.
