Looking for volunteers to capture oral histories from Island Games
We’re looking for volunteers to help us capture memories from 40 years of International Island Games history as well as the next edition taking place on Orkney in July 2025.
As part of an exciting project alongside Orkney Islands Council, the Island Games, Voluntary Action Orkney and funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund Scotland, we will be capturing oral histories and memories to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Island Games, before, during and after the 2025 games, which are being held in July across Orkney.
We are looking for volunteers to record and transcribe oral histories of the games. These will capture the diverse experiences and proud memories of current and past participants, officials, spectators, and volunteers. The oral histories will be preserved in an online archive and used in an exhibition during this year’s 20th Island Games.
Training and support will be provided for all volunteers that help to capture oral histories throughout the months ahead.
How to Apply
To apply for the volunteering role of oral historian, simply visit this link on the Voluntary Action Orkney website here and complete the form as requested.
