Off to the Races! Bishop Auckland members enjoy day at Ripon
During the summer, many of our Sporting Memories Clubs enjoy trips away from their usual session venue to take in some local culture or sports, and this was true for our Club based at Bishop Auckland as they took in some Horse Racing recently.
Ten members of the Sporting Memories group which is run by and held at Bishop Auckland Football Club, made the short trip to Ripon Racecourse to experience some live horse racing.
The trip was self funded by members voluntary contributions at the Sporting Memories sessions over recent months.
Whilst taking in the racing action, there was the time for members to have the odd prediction on race winners with mixed results across the group.
Terry Jackson, who is a Director of Bishop Auckland Football Club and also the Sporting Memories Club Facilitator, reflected on an enjoyable day for everyone who made the trip.
“One of the important aspects of Sporting Memories is the social aspect, and we try to encourage our members, whether it’s at our sessions or on special days like these, to chat and build bonds, so it’s great we could organise this trip to help do that.”
“We might have had a mixed day on the betting front, but the spirit and friendly banter of the group made it a really fun day out and something we’ll look to do again.”
The Bishop Auckland club runs on alternate Thursdays between 10:30am to 12pm at Bishop Auckland Football Club. To find out how to join the club, get in touch with Terry via terry.jackson@bishopafc.com
