Rhinos legend Keith Senior stops by our Holt Park Club

We love welcoming guests from the world of sport to our sessions, and our Holt Park Club were thrilled to welcome a legend of rugby league in the form of Keith Senior (pictured, left) recently.

Keith visited our Club held at Holt Park Active Leisure Centre to join our members as he discussed his journey in the sport, from his illustrious playing career filled with many titles and personal accolades, to today in his role supporting the Rugby League Cares Charity.

A legendary career

Keith spoke on his journey through the sport, starting at his local team Huddersfield YMCA, before signing professionally for the Sheffield Eagles in 1994. Five successful years later he would make the move that would define his legacy in the sport - signing for the Leeds Rhinos.

During his time at Headingley, Keith played over 350 times for the Rhinos across 12 years and would go on to win every major domestic trophy in Rugby League, as well as play for England and Great Britain internationally over 40 times.

Keith is recognised as one of the modern-day legends of the sport and one of the greatest to play in the Super League era.

His time with the Holt Park members

Keith mentioned the importance of team-mates and building relationships with them during his time spent with our Club members, stating that camaraderie between his team-mates played a significant role in developing a successful culture within teams.

There were plenty of Rhinos fans at the session, so they had the chance to quiz Keith about his time at the Club and some of his fondest memories from his time playing in Leeds.

Keith was an extremely popular guest and after he bid farewell to the Club members it was left to our Club volunteer Simon Webster, who supports us through his work at Sky, to summarise Keith’s visit.

“Keith was a great guest, giving us insight into his early career through to retirement and what’s coming up next.

“He answered some personal questions such as the camaraderie between players and the mental health issues which the cameras don’t see. We had lots of engagement from his Leeds Rhinos days as many participants are fans of the Rhinos.”

Our Holt Park Club meet every Monday at Holt Park Active Leisure Centre from 10:30am to 12:30pm. If you would like to find out how to join their sessions, get in touch with James Beaston via james.beaston@leeds.gov.uk
