Sporting Memories is backing the Commonwealth Games

Sporting Memories is gearing up for a summer of unforgettable sport by going ‘All In’ for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, taking place in Glasgow,

Thanks to support from the Glasgow 2026 Festival Fund, we’ll be undertaking a range of activities and events that will celebrate sport and the local community in the lead up to, and during the Games in the city as well as beyond.

Earlier this year, we relaunched our Replay Memory Makers programme in time for the Commonwealth Games.

Replay Memory Makers is a programme which allows schools and colleges to interact with older people in their local community, using the power of sport to create understanding and connections.

Supported by the Glasgow 2026 Education Programme, the resources are freely available to any schools and college that wish to create a project focused around sport, reminiscence and local community.

Teaming up with Glasgow College

One of the activities that is planned will see us partner with Glasgow College, to host a series of special sessions that will welcome diverse communities from across the city.

During 2026, staff from Sporting Memories Scotland have been training students from Glasgow College and staff to help deliver these sessions with a long-term aim of setting up a regular Club to be hosted at the college. With the support of Age Scotland through their diverse network, these sessions will take place in June in the run-up to the Games.

Activity Pack for Sporting Memories Clubs

Ahead of the Games, we’ve created a special pack for our Sporting Memories Clubs to use which contains a range of exciting activities for members to engage with.

There are a range of quizzes to test their Commonwealth Games knowledge and also inclusive sports to get everyone at our sessions into the sporting theme!
