Sue Eltringham joins The Sporting Memories Foundation Board of Trustees

We’re delighted to announce that Sue Eltringham has joined our Board of Trustees for The Sporting Memories Foundation (SMF).

Sue, who has a background in occupational therapy, has been a long-term supporter and volunteer of Sporting Memories, having been the main facilitator of our Marden Sporting Memories Club since it launched in 2022.

Sue also has a passion for sport having played hockey, tennis and rugby for Staffordshire University in her younger days. Sue followed her university experiences by captaining the Cheltenham Ladies Rugby Team in the early 1990’s.

Despite her rugby playing being a thing of the past, Sue still is active and often enjoys running, swimming, hiking and cycling.

In a recent meeting of The SMF Trustees, it was confirmed that Sue will now join the board with immediate effect and will support the charity by providing her professional experience as an Occupational Therapist alongside her involvement with our Marden Club to enhance the work of our Board.

Speaking on her appointment, Chris Wilkins MBE, Co-Founder and CEO of Sporting Memories said: “It is wonderful to have Sue join our board as one of our Trustees for The Sporting Memories Foundation.

“I know from speaking with Sue over the years how passionate she is about our work and how it can make a positive impact on the lives of older people within their local communities. Sue brings a wealth of experience not just from her time at our Marden Club, but also from her professional career and we welcome her warmly into her new role.”

Sue spoke of her passion for Sporting Memories upon her appointment as a Trustee.

Sue commented: “Having volunteered at the Marden Club for five years and an Ambassador to the Sporting Memories Foundation, I was delighted to be invited to become a Trustee.

“Sporting Memories is an organisation I feel very passionate about. When people talk about their clubs, the words that come up regularly are camaraderie, banter, laughing together and having fun. With this in mind, who wouldn’t want to be part of a group that bring that much enjoyment to others?

“I also know from personal experience that people who have enjoyed sports in the past can drift away from being involved in team sports. I know I did, and like many others, missed being part of a team. Sporting Memories brings this sense of being part of a team back to members. It has been a huge privilege to be back in a team.

“I hope that as a Trustee I will be able to support the SMF and all the positive work that they do in the UK and beyond.”
