The power of volunteering with Sky staff

Over the past year, we’ve been thrilled to have staff members from Sky UK visit our Clubs across England, Scotland and Wales to volunteer their time to support our Club members.

Sky as part of their ‘Sky Cares’ programme offers their staff the opportunity to help our with local causes situated near their regional offices across the UK, and many of their staff have chosen to give up their time to support our sessions locally.

Isaac Leishman has been supporting our sessions in Scotland and had the following to say about his time spent with our Club in Kirkcaldy, as well as also helping out at our Dunfermline group.

“Every Wednesday when I head over to Sporting Memories, it’s the best part of my workweek. Seeing the smiles on the older people’s faces as I walk in just makes my day! That day breaks up the week nicely and honestly makes the whole week feel worth it.

“I really enjoy the sessions because I get to chat about sports and have a good laugh with the older folks. My favourite part is when we get to play some games together, it’s always a fun way to share some laughs.

“It’s also been amazing to hear so many different perspectives, not just about sports but about life in general. It’s opened my eyes to how much you can learn from people’s experiences.

Karen has also been offering her time with our Kirkcaldy Club with the ultimate emotion of Joy coming through her feedback.

“I’m so, so glad that I have been part of Sky supporting the clubs and can vouch that everyone we have sent out feels much the same.

“I think the care shown by Mark, Alex and Bob to the Kirkcaldy Club and it participants is second to none and I also love learning their life stories to, I would take anyone in a bad mood to the club and could guarantee they will come out smiling, hence the word joy!”

And finally in Wales, Alisa has been supporting our Clubs in Cardiff and has enjoyed her time volunteering with Sporting Memories.

“I really enjoyed the conversations we’ve had. Even though they were all were about sporting events in Cardiff in 1960-70s – I must admit I didn’t know much about that time to be honest - but it so interesting to get immersed in the city’s culture. I was asking questions and all the participants were really happy to answer them!”

A big thank you to the many staff across Sky who have supported our work by volunteering and we look forward to your ongoing support across 2026!

Being a volunteer with Sudbury , Suffolk ,Sporting Memories for nearly 4 years since the start of The Sudbury Club, has given me a great deal of pleasure and meeting up on Wednesday Afternoons with between 45-50 like minded people, to give our sporting memories going back to much younger days, has helped a lot of people to keep their minds active.

Volunteering for Sporting Memories has been one of the best decisions I've made, it's fulfilling, joyful and humbling. Keep up the great work!
