Visiting the Shots!

Our Sandhurst Sporting Memories Club enjoyed a day out recently at the EBB Stadium, home to National League side Aldershot Town, where they learned more about the Club’s history and their work in the local community.

Our Club members were invited to visit the stadium by Sir John Casey, Chair of the Shots Foundation, and were given a special tour of the EBB Stadium by the Head of the Foundation Jamie MacAllister.

Jamie was on hand to share the many colourful and historical stories of the Shots, who were the original phoenix football club, having returned back to the Football League in the 2010s after being expelled in the early 1990s when Aldershot went out of business due to high debts.

Jamie spoke about their rise back up the leagues as Aldershot Town and how they were able to secure their first ever trophy win earlier this year, winning the FA Trophy at Wembley against Spennymoor Town.

Exploring ‘The Rec’ and Shots Foundation

Alongside learning the history of The Shots, the group were given a special tour of the ground, taking in the players’ facilities, including the dressing rooms, going pitchside and also viewing the directors boxes and hospitality suites.

Jamie then went on to speak about the work of the Shots Foundation and how they engage in many community-based activities, such as this stadium tour with our Sandhurst Club as part of their efforts within the community to promote cohesion as well as helping to make a difference to the lives of people living across Hampshire and Surrey.

Kevin McLean, volunteer for our Sandhurst Club, reflected on the visit to the EBB Stadium.

“Our thanks go out to the Shots Foundation for a very enjoyable and informative day out for our Sporting Memories club. We really enjoyed learning about the history of the Club and being able to explore the stadium too.”

Sandhurst Sporting Memories Club takes place every Monday between 2-4pm at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall. For more information on how to join, please contact Gareth Heard via d-heard@sky.com
