An award and two world cup quarter-finals!

Our Bristol-based volunteer John Collis had a week to remember as he was recognised for his nine years supporting Sporting Memories with a special award alongside an unforgettable trip to France to watch the Rugby World Cup.

John has been supporting Sporting Memories in the Bristol and Gloucestershire areas since 2014 and earlier this year we decided to acknowledge his incredible volunteering efforts by presenting John through an award.

However, we decided to present the accolade to John at his most recent Sporting Memories session held at Seat Unique Stadium, home of Gloucestershire CCC. In front of club members, our friends at Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation, who run the club, presented John with his award giving thanks for his time and efforts spent supporting the club.

Following the session, it was then time for John to head to south of France, where he would be taking in two Rugby World Cup quarter-finals, courtesy of our partners sportsbreaks.com.

John took in a weekend of thrilling World Cup action in Marseille as he witnessed Argentina make their second ever Semi-Final defeating Wales by 29 points to 17. The following day John returned to the Stade de Marseille to witness England also progress to the semi-finals, eventually overcoming Fiji by 30 points to 24 in an entertaining affair.

Over the course of the Rugby World Cup, we’ve been able to provide John and fellow Sporting Memories volunteers Peter Owen from Penarth and Rob Risien in Musselburgh, with the opportunity to go and watch the tournament out in France thanks to our incredible partners at sportsbreaks.com – you can read more about Peter's experience here and Rob’s adventure here.
