Club guidance for Emergency Alert Test

At 3pm on Sunday 23 April 2023, the UK Government will be testing an Emergency Alert system which will notify the general public of a nationwide emergency taking place.

This test will activate a vibration and sound across all active mobile phone devices across the UK. The test is expected to only last a short period of time, between 10-15 seconds.

This alert could alarm and upset individuals and groups who are not expecting it, so we’re asking all clubs to inform members that this test will take place this Sunday at 3pm and how they can prepare or avoid this alert.

Prepare for alert

Please make it clear to all club members that a sharp alert will be activated on all mobile phone devices at 3pm on Sunday 23 April 2023. Here is a link which shows what the alert will look and sound like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGOWfFYvlEw

Try to be calm and assure members that this is only a test and not to act upon anything received during this time period.

How to avoid alert

There are ways in which you can disable the ‘Emergency Alert’ settings on your mobile device to avoid the test.

We have included a link below from YouTube explaining how this can be done on iPhone and Android devices: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/4jXaV_rRb8g
