Dave joins Goal Click journey during European Championship
During the European Championship so far, Dave Webb, a Club member and also a volunteer at our Sudbury Club in Suffolk, has been involved in an exciting project with Goal Click and The Football Association, which is capturing England supporters’ cheering on the Three Lions!
The ‘Home and Away’ project sees supporters, either watching in England, Germany or other countries across the world, capture their experiences of watching the Men’s National Team through a series of videos and images taken throughout the tournament.
Dave, with support from his grandson Toby, has been able to display his journey watching England so far at the tournament, where he has been watching matches at home as well as in the Club House at local football team AFC Sudbury.
83 and still going strong
In the video above and through these links on the England Football and Goal Click websites, you can read Dave’s story in full, including his adventures supporting England at previous tournaments such as the 1998 World Cup in France and his passion for supporting football in Sudbury.
Dave, 83, also took the time during the project to reflect on his experience being a part of our Club in Sudbury, which runs every Wednesday between 2:15 – 3:45pm at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre.
Dave stated: “We have between 50 and 70 people attend each week…I have seen the difference for the better in some of our members in the two years that the Sudbury Club has been running.”
Important to share stories
Chris Wilkins, CEO and Co-Founder of Sporting Memories had this to say about Dave’s involvement with the project.
“It’s been brilliant to work alongside Goal Click on this project with The FA and to allow Dave to share his experience of following England through the tournament.
“At Sporting Memories, we try to encourage everyone involved in our Clubs, from members, their loved ones and volunteers, to all share their stories of sport as it can allow for fascinating conversations and bring people together.
“At 83, Dave epitomises how sport has the power to keep us connected in later life and why it’s important to enable people to share their passions in their local communities.”
