Enjoying the Ice Hockey! Penarth Club watch the Cardiff Devils in action

It was another fun adventure for some members of our Sporting Memories Club in Penarth, as they headed to the Vindico Arena in Cardiff to watch the city’s Ice Hockey team, Cardiff Devils, face off against the Sheffield Steels.

10 Club members and the Club’s volunteers made the short trip into the Welsh capital, thanks to funding provided by Glamorgan Voluntary Services, to sample a professional Ice Hockey match from the Elite League on 20 March. Sitting close to one of the goals, the members cheered on the home team as they took on the league leaders in the Steelers.

It proved to be a good night for the hosts as they put in one of their best performances of the season to down the Steelers by four goals to nil. Our Members certainly enjoyed their time in the Vindico Arena, indicating they loved every minute of the game and certainly would come back to attend further fixtures.

One of our members commented on the Group’s visit by saying: “We had such a lovely time at our first ice hockey match - we will be back!”

Rob Baker, Project Coordinator in Wales, reflected on another successful trip for our Penarth Club: “We really enjoy taking our Club members to places they’ve never been before and that was true for a lot of the Penarth members who came along to the Ice Hockey.

“Some of them had never been to a game before so it was a memorable experience. I think they enjoyed the fast paced nature of the match in a friendly atmosphere too – even if there was the odd bit of aggression on the ice!”

“A big thanks also to Glamorgan Voluntary Services who helped to make this trip possible through recent funding.”
