Fore! Corstorphine Sporting Memories tee’d up a visit to the home of golf.

Our members from Corstorphine Sporting Memories club had a fabulous day out recently as they visited the R&A World Golf Museum in St Andrews, thanks to generous funding from Corstorphine Community Centre and Johnston Smillie Accountants.

On a day to remember, the Corstorphine club members had the opportunity to spend time taking in one of the most iconic venues in sport.

Putting, the Claret Jug and discussing legends

14 members and volunteers managed to fit in a great deal on a busy day at St Andrews, which included a tour of the museum, participating in a putting competition – our members always love partaking in a good sporting competition no matter the sport – and were also given the chance to view the original Claret Jug!

Memories were also ignited by watching over some of the best Open moments and reminiscing about on great names of the past. Legends of the sport including Nicklaus, Jackson, Torrance, Norman were referenced as part of a lively discussion!

Thanks to the generosity of Corstorphine Community Centre and Johnston Smillie, members were also able to enjoy lunch in the Niblick restaurant – with the members able to take in the stunning views over the West Sands.

Some special memories

Corstorphine club member Alex Anderson reflected on a brilliant day with us, which also allowed him to recall playing the course in his earlier years:

"I've played at St Andrews twice before back in the 1950's and I've still got my score cards. My best score was 92 and I'll always remember how great it was to play on such a famous course. To come back here (to St. Andrews) was special and it brought back a lot of fond golfing memories for me."
