New sporting buddies made at Calderwood Sporting Memories Club

We have already been able to reunite friends of old who have bumped into one another at our Clubs, with the shared love of sport a common theme. This time we are delighted to report of a new friendship made at our Calderwood Club in East Kilbride. 

Matt and Terry have become firm friends not just weekly at the Club. They enjoy each other’s company with some assistance from their families. 

After the weekly club 

Matt has been a member at Calderwood for many years and Terry joined around two years ago.  As a result of this friendship, after the Club on some weeks, they get chaperoned by Terry’s daughter to their local pub for a “special lemonade” and a light bite to eat.  Matt’s daughter collects them and drops them both off home afterwards. A chance for them both to be out and about and enjoying themselves. 

They also phone each other on a regular basis with news and snippets and to arrange their weekend activities. Terry’s daughter picks up Matt either on a Saturday or Sunday, when there is a big football match playing, to go to Terry’s home to watch the football and cheer on their chosen teams.  

Serving their communities 

Both Matt and Terry are great family men surrounded by loving relatives who have enjoyed watching this beautiful friendship develop. Matt and Terry also contributed greatly to their communities before retiring. 

Matt ran a fruit and vegetable store in Rutherglen, Glasgow. He is fondly remembered as someone who was good to his customer’s, putting a little extra into their shopping bags when he knew it would be appreciated or needed. He always gave the kids a bit of fruit too. Matt’s preferred sport of interest is boxing but has a bit of interest in football amongst other sports.?  

Terry is also a family man and a retired teacher. Terry is a die-hard Celtic fan who has followed the club his whole life. 

This just goes to show no-one is ever too old to make new friends. Their shared laughter is keeping them young at heart.
