Rumney head to Glamorgan!

Sporting Memories Wales has enjoyed a good relationship with Glamorgan Cricket in recent years and once again they kindly welcomed in another of our Clubs for a day at Sophia Gardens.

Members and volunteers from the Rumney Hub Club in Cardiff were given the opportunity a few weeks ago to explore the home of Glamorgan and Welsh cricket as well as learn more about the history of the club.

Having been welcomed in by some of the team at Glamorgan, it was then time to walk around and view the stadium on a non-matchday, getting up and close to the playing surface as well as exploring some of the facilities, including the press box where the media report on games from.

Following the tour, our members and volunteers from the Rumney Hub were taken inside Sophia Gardens to learn more about the history of the cricket club as well as the role it has played on the international stage, being the host of numerous England and tournament matches, including the Ashes and Cricket World Cup.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for the Rumney Hub attendees, and Rob Baker, Project Coordinator for Sporting Memories Wales, shared his thoughts on the visit.

“It was great we could have another one of our Clubs head to Sophie Gardens to visit the home of Glamorgan and I cannot thank the team the club enough for their hospitality.

“From the feedback I’ve received, all the members and volunteers who were there really enjoyed getting to know more about cricket and also exploring the stadium in more detail than you normally would on a matchday.”

Our Rumney Hub Club runs every Wednesday between 10am and 12pm. To find out more about how you or a loved one could join their weekly sessions, contact Jane via jane.clemence2@cardiff.gov.uk
