Scottish Club Members have access all areas day at Knockhill

Club members from across our Scottish clubs were invited to Knockhill for an exclusive look behind the scenes of a British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) race day, thanks to support from our Patron, Mark Blundell.

Invited as guests of Mark’s ROKiT MB Motorsport team, our group of club members along with club volunteers and Sporting Memories staff had a special day in the paddock of Knockhill Circuit where they were given access into the team’s garages as well as having the opportunity to watch a day of qualifying and racing involving BTCC, Ginetta Junior and Formula Four championships.

Our group started their day by visiting the MB Motorsport ROKiT garage where they were given an insight into the engineering and technical requirements of a BTCC car and then had the opportunity to speak with Jake Hill, driver of the RoKiT BMW, as he shared his experiences of racing in the championship ahead of final qualifying later that day.

The group then were able to watch the day’s track action across all the different formulas taking part over the weekend. This proved to be a wonderful afternoon for one of our club members in particular.

Davie, who attends our Corstorphine Club, has a passion for sports photography but has had precious few opportunities to pursue his hobby over recent years due to a long-term health condition. But thanks to being amongst fellow members and the support of Sporting Memories volunteers Davie was able to practice all his old photography skills once again capturing the behind the scenes activity in the paddock as well as the action on the track!

Chris Wilkins, Co-Founder and CEO of Sporting Memories, who also attended the day was delighted with how club members and volunteers engaged with the day. “First of all, I would just like to thank Mark Blundell and ROKiT MB Motorsport, and Knockhill Circuit, for a brilliant day and allowing our members to come along and enjoy a wonderful experience.

“It was great to get up and close to a major motor racing event and I think our members were delighted to see the cars racing as well as understand a bit more about a race day. The team at MB Motorsport made us feel really welcome and it was great we were able to get some time with Jake and to hear about his career and driving in the BTCC.”
