We’re on our way – Croydon Club enjoy tour of Wembley

Our Club in Croydon, hosted and operated by the Asian Resource Centre Croydon (ARCC) were given a fantastic opportunity to go inside the world famous Wembley Stadium.

Kindly provided the opportunity by the Football Association and the Wembley Stadium Tour team, the group of 10 from Croydon headed to Wembley last Thursday (11 July) for their first visit exploring the depths and details of England’s national football stadium.

But first a cup of tea…

The first stop inside Wembley was to one of the viewing boxes, where members had their first chance to saviour the view of the inside of the stadium, which is currently in music concert mode, having recently welcomed legendary rock band AC/DC, and soon to be followed by another musical icon in the form of Bruce Springsteen!

Whilst chatting over a cups of tea and coffee, Tom Taylor, Communications Manager at Sporting Memories explained to the group from Croydon that they were the first cohort from the charity to visit Wembley. Shortly after this, it was then the turn of Ray, our tour guide for the day to begin the journey around the stadium.

A wonderful time had by all

During their tour, our Croydon Club members got to see the wonderful trophies on display including the original FA Cup, Community Shield trophy before moving on to find out more about the history of the stadium, including in its original iteration where it held the 1948 Olympic Games as well as the epic fundraising music event Live Aid in 1985.

There was also the opportunity to go and view the England dressing room before making their way out into the centre of the Stadium, where normally there would be a pitch. However, being in concert mode currently it is covered so people can stand to watch concerts.

It was a fun time for our members who asked Ray many questions about the stadium’s sporting events, how the operation of events are handled by the hundreds of staff as well as finding out how many toilets Wembley has!

Reflecting on a great day, Tom said: “A huge thanks to everyone at The FA and Wembley Stadium for providing our Croydon Club members with the opportunity to come and see Wembley.

“Speaking to all the Club members afterwards, it was clear to see how much fun they had on their tour and are keen to do other exciting activities involving sport away from their weekly sessions at Peony Court.”
