Young Farmers, Cakes and Us: a perfect partnership

Sometimes partnerships and alliances are obvious: Motorsport and Tyres, Football with Kit manufacturers. Sometimes they are not and can cause a little bit of head scratching as to where the link is – much like a recent partnership involving Sporting Memories Scotland.

Sporting Memories Scotland were approached by Lesmahagow Young Farmers during the Spring of 2023 when they asked if they could fund raise for our activity across Scotland.

We were, of course, delighted to accept this kind offer and when they suggested a Coffee Morning, we just knew this was a partnership that would be close to our hearts. After all, what is a Sporting Memories Club meeting without a cuppa and tasty bite?

By the way – please do take a moment to check their Facebook page (link above) which shows the breadth of community activities they get up to. They are a very sporty bunch - So, perhaps the love of all things sport for all makes sense of this partnership!

Farmers and friends, young and old, came along to make the Coffee Morning a very successful event held at Lesmahagow Bowling Club with nearly £500 raised. The donated baked treats were of the highest standard and could put some Bake-Off attempts to shame!

For the Coffee Morning, Jim Purvis, one of our Community Club Co-ordinators, was on hand to share more information to those who came along about what we do across Scotland and beyond. Jim spent most of the morning detailing how we could help older local residents who may be living with long-term medical conditions but still loves talking and reminiscing about sport with like-minded new friends.

In summary, it was a superb event and we do hope that these shining examples of our farming future will manage to raise some more funds as well as good times and laughs.
