Dalkeith come out on top as Clubs participate in Boccia Bonanza!

We held a special boccia competition for our Clubs across England, Scotland and Wales, to celebrate the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, with our Dalkeith Sporting Memories Club eventually being crowned champions!

Over the course of early September, when the Paralympic Games were running in Paris, we asked our Club members to take on a Boccia-themed challenge where they would score points for landing a boccia ball on a target. Members had five throws each to score as many points as they could, with Clubs adding up all their scores to make a Club average total.

During the course of the competition, Club members and volunteers enjoyed taking on a challenge within their usual Sporting Memories session, with the competitive nature of our members taking hold as they tried their best to score as many points for themselves and their Clubs.

After a week of fun and enjoyment taking on the challenge, it was our Dalkeith Club up in Scotland who triumphed, with members of the Club averaging over 200 points with their attempt.

In England, our Hove Club held at URC Church, scored the highest on average in the region with a score of 175, whilst in Wales it was Penarth who came out on top earning 50 points of average.

Tom Taylor, Communications Manager for Sporting Memories, reflected on the Boccia Bonanza competition. “We wanted to do something with our Clubs which would connect with the summer of sport and also get our members involved in some physical activity too, so to get them playing Boccia during the Paralympic Games seemed a perfect fit.”

“We received a lot of positive feedback from Club facilitators and volunteers about the competition and it is something we’ll certainly try to do again in the future. A special thank you must go to all the members who took part!”
