Digby Brown Dig Deep

It was a special day recently for Sporting Memories Scotland as Gary Waddell, our Fife Club Co-ordinator, visited Digby Brown Solicitors, Kirkcaldy Office for the official handover of an impressive contribution of over £4,000 to support our work.

Digby Brown Solicitors area offices choose a local charity partner each year to help and 2023 was our very lucky year. The staff certainly didn’t hold back getting involved and Gary said: “It was just great to hear how much the team enjoyed learning more about Sporting Memories Scotland and joining us for some sessions as well.”

Some of what Digby Brown got up to:

The team dug deep and embarked on the Kiltwalk  21 mile Mighty Stride in September as part of their fundraising efforts. The route took in some of the key Edinburgh and surrounding sights finishing up at Murrayfield Stadium. Leanne Christie, who looks after the charity activities in Kirkcaldy shared that there were quite a few blisters and sore feet at work after the Mighty Stride!

Some members of staff at Digby Brown enjoyed a day out to St Andrews to help Sporting Memories Club members visiting the St Andrews Golf Museum during the summer. They were also able to join the celebrations of one of the Kirkcaldy Club’s longest serving members Freda Morton who turned 90 that day.

Some of the staff also managed to take a few hours away from their desks just before Christmas to join the Kirkcaldy Club again for some fun, quizzes and activities. The group moved on after the meeting at Kirkcaldy Rugby Club to Hayfield Community Centre for an excellent lunch and more banter.

Whilst chatting with Leanne, Gary asked which charity they had picked for 2024 and was delighted to learn that “Love Oliver” was to benefit this year. Love Oliver is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and their families in Scotland diagnosed with cancer through provision of appropriate financial and practical support, and the development of new treatments through research.

One of the activities they have already lined up is a Quiz Night in May. Sporting Memories have promised to get a team together to take part. After all, we are the Kings of the Quizzes!

How their efforts will help

Thank you to all the staff at the Kirkcaldy branch of Digby Brown for helping us so much and rest assured that the money raised will support over 50 older people across Fife to improve their mental wellbeing, be more active, make new friends and become more connected in their local community. The funds also provide vital respite for at least 20 unpaid carers and provide ongoing support to a team of volunteers to facilitate our local weekly Sporting Memories Clubs.
