Rumney Hub visit the Bluebirds for a special session!
Every now and then our Clubs enjoy taking themselves away from their usual session for something a bit different, and this was certainly true of our Rumney Partnership Hub Club as they made the short trip across the Welsh capital to the Cardiff City Stadium for a memorable day.
The Club members and volunteers visited the home of the Bluebirds and the Welsh National Football team for a tour of the stadium as well as having the chance to host their usual weekly Sporting Memories session inside the ground.
Touring the ground
Thanks to the generosity of Cardiff City FC Community Foundation (CCCF), our Rumney Hub Club were invited to take in a detailed tour of the stadium, including have the chance to walk through the tunnel and get pitchside!
They also got the chance to go behind the scenes of the stadium which isn’t usually seen by matchday goers, including the dressing rooms and the players entrance.
The Community Foundation also run their own regular Sporting Memories session at the ground, so they were ready and willing to offer their usual meeting place to the Rumney Hub Club to continue their fun day out.
Finishing the day with Sporting Memories
Our Rumney Club weren’t going to forget their usual Sporting Memories activities, so once they all made their way inside the ground following the tour, they got themselves a cup of tea or coffee and were ready to begin!
The usual sporting chat took place as well as the games including Spot The Ball and the regular quiz provided in the Sporting Pinks which kept the chat and good nature of the day going, before the day at the stadium came to an end.
Rob Baker, Project Coordinator for Sporting Memories in Wales, thanked CCCF for providing our Rumney Hub members with an enjoyable experience.
“It was lovely to see the Rumney Hub group being invited along to the stadium for a tour as well as having the chance to host their usual session within the ground. Judging by the feedback I’ve received, the members loved the day out and doing something new such as the tour.
“A huge thank you must go to the Cardiff City FC Community Foundation for hosting the Rumney members and volunteers. They run their own Sporting Memories Club at the ground so know the impact these sessions have on older people in the local community across Cardiff; so we’re really appreciative of the chance to bring another group to the Cardiff City Stadium.”
The CCCF Sporting Memories Club runs every Thursday from 10am at the Cardiff City Stadium, and the Rumney Hub Club runs Wednesday at 10am. To find out more on how to join either Club email rob.baker@sportingmemories.uk
