We’re always thrilled to hear of people who wish to take on great challenges to raise money and awareness of our work, so it was with great delight we can announce that Rob Foreman will be running the Chester 10k in March for Sporting Memories.
Rob has a strong connection to Sporting Memories, being one of our ambassadors based in the North West of England. We caught up with Rob as he prepares to take on the long-distance run for Sporting Memories, where he explained his reasons for taking on the 10k.
“I like to set myself personal challenges as I keep getting older,” Rob Began. “I do ParkRun on a regular basis, so I was looking to test myself that bit further and found the 10k was running in Chester and thought that will do!
“Also, from my time with Sporting Memories, I know of the wonderful work the charity does to support older people, so I thought it would be perfect to combine the two elements of challenge and doing it for a great cause.”
The connection to sport runs deep with Rob through himself and family ties and that is why he is such a big support of the work we do through our Clubs.
“I’ve always had a passion for sport and it’s always been a huge help to me, particularly from a mental health aspect.
“It also is that great connector in life. My father attends a local Sporting Memories session, so I understand the impact the Clubs can have on individuals and communities.
“Also, my father-in-law was a huge sports fan but sadly was diagnosed with dementia in later life and I believe if he had known about Sporting Memories at the time, it would have been something he would have appreciated being a part of.”
Rob is encouraging anyone who believes in the power of sport to support older people to live happier and more fulfilling lives to help Sporting Memories through his fundraising efforts.
“I’m keen to raise the profile, so more and more people know about the brilliant work that Sporting Memories do. The reality is that we all know older people, and one day we will become old too, so it’s vital that we help to provide activities which stimulate and give something back to local communities.”
“Any contribution that can be made to my fundraising efforts will be greatly appreciated!”
