Coastal and cricket fun for our Welsh Clubs

While the UK enjoys the sun and heat of the summer, some of our Welsh Clubs have been enjoying trips to the seaside and the cricket respectively!

Across the summer, our Scarlets Club have enjoyed a trip to Tenby to take in a day of sun, while several of our Clubs gathered at Sophia Gardens to enjoy some one-day cricket action.

Terrific time in Tenby

In July, over 30 members of the Scarlets Club made the trip west from Llanelli to enjoy a fine day in the seaside town of Tenby.

They began their day by visiting Tenby Rugby Club, who have produced a number of players for Scarlets over the years, including current scrum-half Archie Hughes. The Club members enjoyed exploring a local bit of sporting history with its connections to the regional rugby side.

There was then time to explore Tenby and take in the coastal views, with plenty of laughs and conversations had during their walk around the town. There was even time for a spot of lunch to wrap up the visit.

Rob Lloyd, Media and Communications Manager at Scarlets, reflected briefly on the Club’s trip.

“The group at the Scarlets continues to grow and it was brilliant to spend a lovely day together enjoying a stunning part of our region.”

How’s that?

Earlier this month, our Clubs from across Wales, including our Scarlets Club, came together at Sophia Gardens to attend Glamorgan’s one-day fixture against Essex Eagles.

For the past four years, thanks to the kind support of Glamorgan Cricket, we have been able to gather our Clubs for a day at the cricket. There was also no fear of a rain delay on another glorious day as the weather was set fair.

It turned out to be a high-scoring affair with over 600 runs scored during the match, but unfortunately for the host it was Essex who managed to successfully chase down 310 to win.

However the result did not spoil the mood of our members, with one Club member commenting: “A superb day at the cricket, what a great game. Thanks to Sporting Memories Wales and to Glamorgan Cricket for arranging a brilliant day - this is the fourth year I have been coming along to our cricket day and it gets better each year.”

Another member, who invited their grandchildren along, was delighted with how the day was entertaining for them and the young ones.

“It was nice to meet up with other club members and to have a coffee and chat with them, I took my grandchildren and they really enjoyed the day, they even went onto the pitch to have a bat and bowl which was amazing.”

Rob Baker, our Project Coordinator for Wales shared his thoughts on another lovely day spent the cricket.

“It was great to see so many members enjoying the sunshine, chatting with other members, laughing and joking. Days like these give our members an opportunity to come to a sporting event which they may not attend otherwise.

“A massive thank you to our friends at Glamorgan Cricket for making a truly memorable day.”
