Roy Bergiers welcomed as latest guest to Scarlets session

Since our Sporting Memories Club with Scarlets Rugby began last year, it has grown considerably and has welcomed a number of high-profile guests. This was further supported last week as the club welcomed former Llanelli centre Roy Bergiers to their session.

Roy joined the group for their weekly meeting on a Wednesday morning at the Parc Y Scarlets to chat about his lengthy career which involved playing over 200 times for Llanelli as well as playing for his country and being selected for the British Lions in 1974.

Roy is famously known as the match-winning try scorer when Llanelli caused a great upset in defeating the touring New Zealand team in 1972, and was on hand to detail that incredible moment alongside other tales from his careers to members in attendance.

You can read more about Roy’s visit to the Scarlets Club on their website here.

The Sporting Memories Club at Parc Y Scarlets has had a range of special guests visit their session, welcoming the likes of former head coach Gareth Jenkins and also Welsh and British Lion full back Leigh Halfpenny.

Rob Baker, Project Coordinator for Sporting Memories Wales, has been delighted to see the impact of the Club since its launch.

“It’s fantastic to see the Scarlets Club continue to grow and they’ve already had a number of brilliant guests come along to speak about their careers with Scarlets and beyond.

“Having such a plethora of great names and icons from Welsh rugby union connected to the Club, means they can welcome a variety of amazing speakers, with stories and insights which can bring theirs and the members memories to life.”

“I know from speaking to the team at Scarlets that they’re really seeing the positive impact of hosting the Sporting Memories sessions are having on those that attend regularly, so we’re looking forward to seeing what lies ahead for the Club!”

The Scarlets Club at Parc Y Scarlets takes place every Wednesday between 11am to 1pm. If you would like to find out how to join email
